MENOPAUSE or ‘CHANGE OF LIFE’

Menopause characterizes the decline of ovarian function which in turn leads to a cessation of menstruation in a woman. The age group can vary from 35 yrs to 50 yrs as it is dependent upon the maternal history and various other factors. Menopause is also conventionally called Change of life, for multiple reasons but in my opinion, this is becoming more and more practically irrelevant in today’s day and age when as women, we are all very conscious about our diet and lifestyle as well as the importance of an active life, which to a great extent, counteracts the effects of the internal hormonal turmoil that happens naturally at and around this age.

It can be completely smooth for some of us but most of us do experience some symptoms which could be mild to moderate. The most common experiences include.

  • Hot flashes

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Headaches/ migraines

  • Sexual drive declining

  • Fatigue

HRT is still used by many women at this age, but the side effects can be manifested on various levels of health, so many women are increasingly using homeopathy for the uncomfortable symptoms.

I would want to discuss some of the commonly used homeopathic remedies during this phase of life for some guidance on the group.

  • Lachesis: This is one of the commonly mentioned remedies around menopause. It can help with many symptoms like hemorrhages, hemorrhoids, vertigo, headaches etc. Women who have never been well since menopause, is a typical indication. A general hypersensitivity to touch can also be a part of it’s picture. Many heart related symptoms like palpitations and constriction about the heart can be found under this remedy.

  • Cimicifuga: This is an irritable patient with sinking at the stomach and pain at the vertex of the head. A restless, unhappy, sad patient might benefit from this remedy.

  • Camphor: This patient gets flushes of heat and sweats in a warm room, with cold limbs and abdomen. The patient feels cold when uncovered and sweats when covered.

  • Caulophyllum: This remedy is mainly for nervous conditions after menopause with a propensity to worry over little things.

  • Bellis perennis: Extremely tired patients who always want to lie down and have troublesome back problems, need this remedy.

  • Carduus marianus: Liver troubles at and around this age.

  • Ustilago: Flooding of blood at menopause with vertigo is covered by this wonderful remedy.

  • Sanguinaria canadensis: Leucorrhea or white discharge, very offensive and irritating to the skin of the parts, after menses, is indicative of this remedy.

  • Fraxinus americanus: It is a useful remedy for mental states at the time of menopause with complete relaxation of the uterus.

  • Oophorinum: This is a good remedy for acne and skin disorders around the climacteric.

These are the most basic indications for these remedies but the scope of homeopathy for

menopausal conditions is unlimited. It can be extremely beneficial for so many more

conditions that arise especially before, during or after menopause.

The best results can only be obtained by working with a professional homeopath, but this

article is written with an intent of spreading information about the use of Homeopathy for

Menopause. Hope this piece helped you understand the application of homeopathy even

better.
